Where is the app after I open it?
Lemon lives in the menu bar and has no Dock icon. Look for the lemon slice at the top right of your screen. Its menu opens Settings, where you can check permissions and choose which formats appear.
How do I convert a file?
- In Finder or on the Desktop, start dragging any file and hold the Option key. A lemon opens under your pointer.
- Drop the file on a slice, such as JPG or MP4. The converted copy appears in the same folder, beside the original.
- Rest on More for a moment to see every action. Let go in the middle of the lemon, or anywhere else, to cancel.
- Drag several files of the same kind together to convert them all at once.
Can I use the right-click menu instead of dragging?
Yes, it is optional. Open Lemon's Settings › General and press Turn On next to Right-click menu, then switch Lemon on in the list macOS shows. Squeeze with Lemon then appears when you right-click a file in Finder.
Why does Lemon ask to save in a folder?
Lemon asks for nothing when it starts. Mac App Store apps can only write where you allow, and Lemon saves each converted copy beside its original, so the first time you convert a file in a folder it asks whether it may save there. It asks once per folder and remembers your answer. You can see and remove folders in Settings › General.
Where do converted files go?
Into the same folder as the original, with the new extension. Nothing is ever overwritten: if the name is taken, Lemon adds a number. If the folder is read-only (a disk image or a locked share), nothing is saved and Lemon tells you to copy the file somewhere else first.
What can it convert?
- Photos and images: HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, GIF and BMP to each other, plus compress, half size, rotate, flip, PDF and SVG.
- PDFs: every page to PNG or JPG, text (including scanned pages), web page, split, merge, rotate and compress.
- Documents: Word, RTF, OpenDocument, Markdown, HTML and plain text to PDF, Word, RTF or HTML, or read aloud to an audio file.
- Video: MP4 and MOV to each other, GIF, extract the audio, mute and compress.
- Audio: to M4A, WAV, FLAC and AIFF, and compress.
- Archives and folders: zip a folder, turn a folder of images into one PDF, and open zip, 7z, rar, tar, gz, bz2 and xz archives.
Can I choose which formats appear?
Yes. Settings › Actions lists every file type. Switch on the formats you want in the lemon; the rest wait under More.
