The short version
Pixel Soup collects nothing, sends nothing, and keeps everything on your Mac. Every wallpaper is generated on your Mac's graphics chip, and the app contains no networking code at all.
Your photos
If you choose a photo for the Image pattern, Pixel Soup copies it into its own folder on your Mac so the wallpaper keeps working after the original moves. If you use From photo to pick colours, the photo is read once to find its main colours and nothing is kept. Photos are never uploaded or read for any other purpose.
Your desktop
When you apply a wallpaper, Pixel Soup saves the picture in its own folder on your Mac and sets it as your desktop picture through macOS. An animated wallpaper plays in a window behind your desktop icons. Exported PNGs are saved only where you choose.
What Pixel Soup does not do
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No accounts, no sign-in, no email collection.
- No third-party SDKs of any kind.
- No network requests. Pixel Soup contains no networking code and opens no connections.
- No data sold or shared with anyone, because none is collected.
The links in the app
The welcome window and the menu bar carry a “Made by askmaddyy” credit with links to askmaddyy.com and to AskMaddyy on X, and if macOS asks you to approve open at login, a button opens System Settings at Login Items. Pressing one hands the web address to your own browser or to macOS. Pixel Soup itself opens no connection, sends nothing with the address, and learns nothing about what happens next.
What is stored on your Mac
Your settings, your saved palettes, your recent wallpapers, the pictures made from them and any photos you chose are kept in the app's own folder on your Mac. Nothing is kept anywhere else.
Purchases
Pixel Soup is bought on the Mac App Store, and the purchase is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Pixel Soup itself never sees your payment details or your Apple Account.
Permissions
Pixel Soup asks for no special permissions. It only opens files you pick yourself in a standard Open or Save window. Open at login is off until you switch it on, and you can switch it off in System Settings › General › Login Items.
Deleting your data
Delete the app, then its folder at ~/Library/Containers/com.askmaddyy.pixelsoup, and nothing of it remains. Your current desktop picture stays until you choose another in System Settings › Wallpaper.
Children
Pixel Soup collects no data from any user, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
